The challenge: a beautiful idea on very damaged hair
This client visited me from Hong Kong while travelling in Tokyo. She wanted a cut, a new color and a digital perm — but her hair was already very damaged, which made this a genuinely difficult case. Color and perm on fragile hair can easily make things worse, so the whole plan was built around one idea: change the look without adding damage.
What I did
Color with built-in nourishment. Instead of a standard dye, I used a formula infused with protein, so the hair was fed and strengthened while it was being colored — not stripped by it.
Acidic digital perm. A normal perm is harsh on damaged hair, so I adjusted the pH to the acidic side. This creates soft, natural curl while keeping the process as gentle as possible — the same low-damage principle as acid straightening.
Cut. A cut to shape the style and remove the most tired ends, so the curl and color sit beautifully.

The result
Even on hair that started out very damaged, the finish came out with real shine and a soft, supple texture — and my client was truly happy with it. Proof that with the right chemistry and a careful hand, you can still get a beautiful color and curl without sacrificing the health of your hair.
If your hair is damaged and you’re nervous about color or perm, this is exactly the kind of case I plan carefully. You can read more about protecting fragile hair in my keratin treatment guide and hair color guide.
