First Trip to Japan — and a Special Salon Visit
This guest came to my salon in Ginza from California, and this was her very first trip to Japan. She found me before her first trip to Japan and booked Japanese hair straightening during her visit. She told me she had been looking forward to coming — and honestly, so had I.
Many of my international clients plan a salon visit as part of their Japan trip. Tokyo is one of the best places in the world for hair straightening, and combining it with travel makes practical sense: you go home with a souvenir you wear every day.

Her Hair Concerns
Her hair is thick, with a strong natural curl. Every head of hair is different — thickness, curl pattern, and condition vary from person to person regardless of where you are from — and in her case, the combination of high density and strong curl meant daily styling took real time and effort, especially while traveling.
Thick hair with a strong curl also behaves differently while traveling: new water, hotel hair dryers, humidity, and long days of sightseeing all make frizz and volume harder to control. She was spending a lot of time each morning just getting her hair to a point where she felt comfortable — time she would rather spend enjoying her trip and her daily life back home.
What she wanted was simple: hair that stays smooth and manageable on its own.
Hair Assessment and Treatment Plan
Before starting, I checked her hair condition carefully — the curl pattern, the thickness, and how her hair responds. Based on that, we decided on Japanese hair straightening combined with a treatment, so the hair would not only become straight but also feel soft and cared-for afterwards.
Not sure if Japanese hair straightening is suitable for your hair?
Send me photos of your current hair and your hair history. I can check your hair condition before you book.
Send Your Hair Photos →A Careful Four-and-a-Half-Hour Process
Because her hair was thick and the curl was strong, the session took time — about 4 hours 30 minutes in total.
I know that sounds long — but for thick hair with a strong curl, a longer appointment is completely normal. If your hair is similar, please plan for extra time on your salon day — it is time well spent.
The Final Result
The finished result was smooth and straight, and she was very happy with her new look. You can see the change in the photos.

You can see more transformations in my Before & After gallery, including a recent client who visited from Toronto with a similar daily-styling struggle.

Advice for International Visitors
If you are planning to visit Tokyo and would like hair straightening during your trip, here is my advice: before booking, send me photos of your current hair along with your hair history — any color, bleach, or previous straightening treatments. It does not need to be perfect; whatever you remember is enough.
For the photos, natural is best: dry hair, in its usual state, from the back and the side — not flat-ironed or styled. Natural photos show me your real texture, which is what I need to plan your appointment properly. If your hair is thick like this guest’s, mentioning that helps too, so I can reserve enough time for a careful session.
I will check your photos and history in advance, so when you arrive we can start with a clear plan — and your salon visit becomes a highlight of your trip, not a gamble. You can message me anytime on WhatsApp (+81 80 9707 7119) for a consultation in English before you book.
