Japanese Hair Straightening in Tokyo for an Iranian Guest Living in Denmark

Before & After

A guest from Iran who lives in Denmark visited me for Japanese hair straightening. She had searched on ChatGPT for an English-speaking hairstylist in Japan, found my name, and came to Tokyo for her appointment with me. She was flying back to Denmark the day after her appointment, so the plan had to be clear before she sat down in the chair.

Her visit was Japanese hair straightening on the regrowth, together with a layered haircut. The appointment took about three and a half hours.

Her hair history

She had hair straightening done in Malaysia in April 2025. Since then, new hair had grown in at the roots with her natural texture, while the lengths and ends were still the hair that had already been straightened.

This is a very common situation for my international guests: one head of hair, but two different conditions. The new growth needs straightening. The previously straightened part does not need the same treatment again, and treating it as if it were new hair would add strain it does not need. If you are managing this stage yourself, I explain more in how to manage new hair growth after straightening.

The consultation: “Will my hair fall out afterwards?”

Before we started, she asked me directly whether Japanese hair straightening could make her hair fall out later. It is a fair question, and I prefer to answer it honestly rather than with a promise.

This is a chemical service, so I cannot say the risk is zero. What I can do is take these precautions:

  • I do not apply the straightening product directly onto the scalp.
  • I leave a small gap at the roots when applying it.
  • I check the previous treatment history and the current condition of the hair before choosing anything.
  • I apply different products to the new growth and to the previously straightened lengths.

Having this conversation in English, in detail, before the service starts is a large part of what I do. Results and the right method always depend on each person’s hair history and condition.

Reading the regrowth and applying products separately

I first looked closely at where her natural texture started and where the hair straightened in Malaysia began. On the new growth, I used a product to relax and straighten the natural texture. On the previously straightened lengths, I used a different formula, chosen to improve the feel of the hair while avoiding unnecessary strain.

I chose each product based on her hair history and the current condition of her hair. Choosing the product for the hair in front of me, rather than using one formula for everyone, is how I approach every regrowth retouch.

Why some texture remains after blow-drying

After the first solution is rinsed out, I blow-dry the hair. At this point the hair can still look a little fluffy, with some of its original texture visible. She looked at it and asked, quite reasonably, whether it was really going to become straight.

This is a normal part of the process. The first solution does not make the hair perfectly straight on its own, and after rinsing and drying the hair is not finished yet. It is a stage in the middle of the service.

Why ironing is an essential step

Next, I brush the hair to set the direction it falls, then pass the flat iron through it carefully, according to the condition of her hair. This is the step where the straight shape is actually formed.

Why the second solution cannot be skipped

After ironing, her hair already looked straight, and she wondered whether we could stop there. I explained that the second solution is the step that makes the result hold. In simple terms, the second solution helps fix the hair in its newly straightened shape, so this step cannot be left out.

A layered haircut from the face toward the back

She also wanted a haircut. I added layers that start around the face and connect naturally toward the back. The goal was not only to make her hair straight, but to keep some movement once it was straight, so the long lengths would not look too heavy or flat.

The result

The texture in the regrowth settled, and the hair is straight all the way to the ends without looking stiff. It feels soft to the touch, and the layers give it natural movement. She was very happy with the result, and I was glad we could do it the day before she flew back to Denmark.

Questions she asked

Can Japanese hair straightening make my hair fall out?

It is a chemical service, so I cannot promise there is no risk. My precautions include not applying the product directly to the scalp, leaving a small gap at the roots, checking your treatment history first, and using different products on new growth and previously straightened hair.

My hair still had some texture after the first solution was rinsed and dried. Did something go wrong?

No. At that point the service is not finished. The straight shape is formed afterwards, when I brush the hair into place and pass the flat iron through it carefully.

My hair looked straight after ironing. Why is the second solution still needed?

The second solution helps fix the hair in its newly straightened shape. It is an essential step and cannot be skipped.
