You came out of the salon with hair that looks stiff, flat, damaged, or nothing like what you asked for. After 23 years of straightening hair, I’ve seen most variations of what can go wrong. Here’s an honest breakdown.
Problem 1: Hair That Feels Stiff and Artificial
Cause: High-pH alkaline chemicals, or acid straightening at too high a concentration. The chemical stripped too much natural protein and moisture.
Fix: Weekly deep conditioning with SBCP Hair Mask for 6–8 weeks restores softness. The stiffness also naturally softens as moisture balance recovers.
Avoid next time: Ask specifically about acid straightening — lower pH, noticeably softer result. Ask to see before/after photos.
Problem 2: Hair That’s Flat With No Volume
Cause: Chemical too strong, or flat iron applied with too much pressure. Over-processed hair.
Fix: Blowdry from underneath, directing airflow upward for root lift. Use Kérastase Huile Chronologiste before drying to add movement.
Avoid next time: Tell the stylist explicitly you want volume preserved. Ask about subtle layering technique.
Problem 3: Damaged or Broken Ends
Cause: Chemical too strong for current hair condition, or flat iron too hot. More likely with bleached hair.
Fix: Trim damaged ends immediately. Then weekly SBCP Hair Mask for 2–3 months before any further chemical treatment.
Avoid next time: Always disclose your complete chemical history. A good stylist adjusts formula and timing accordingly.
Problem 4: Uneven Results
Cause: Uneven chemical application, or silicone buildup that blocked penetration in certain areas.
Fix: Go back to the salon. Targeted re-treatment can correct uneven results. Don’t try to fix at home.
Avoid next time: A pre-wash to remove silicone buildup is essential before straightening. Ask if the stylist includes this step.
Problem 5: Results Faded After a Few Weeks
Cause: Almost always home care. Silicone-based shampoos gradually reverse the softness of straightening results. Hot water strips the treatment faster.
Fix: Switch immediately to SBCP Raw Mineral Shampoo. Wash with 38°C water. Results improve within 2–4 weeks.
Avoid next time: Get specific home care recommendations — shampoo type, water temperature, return schedule. Vague advice is a warning sign.
When to Go Back to the Salon
If you’ve had a genuinely bad result, go back within 2 weeks — most salons have a post-treatment policy within that window. If you’re considering a different salon after a bad experience, I’m happy to assess your hair’s current condition before you book anything.
